Here is a very general list of some types of manifestations you may encounter.
This list is not complete (as of 2 February 2008)
and is subject to modification as additional data is collected.
Suggestions are welcome.

Residual Hauntings.

Residual hauntings seem to be the most common of Paranormal events. Residual hauntings are essentially a psychic imprint of the past.

This type of occurrence is likely when violent acts, such as rapes, murders, and suicides, happened in a house or location. This highly potent and intense emotion and/or trauma are so strong that it becomes permanently attached to a place, or object, and is replayed over and over and over.

These events may occur daily at a certain hour, monthly, yearly or over unpredictable intervals such as every few decades or on a special anniversary. Frequently, in an instance of a residual haunting, the entities involved are completely unaware of anything going on around them. They are oblivious to the passage of time or transitions of ownership. For them, only that moment exists. There is nothing else, no one else.

Disembodied Spirits at Unrest.
This classification of haunting is a bit more complicated. This type of encounter involves a manifestation that is self-aware and is often eager for attention, awareness and interaction with living, breathing humanity.

disembodied spirits result when a person experiences a traumatic death or has left behind unresolved conflicts or relationships. For some reason, this earthly concern leaves a spirit without peace or rest, preventing them from coming to terms with their own deaths and moving on to the next plane of their existence.

These spirits have personalities, likes and dislikes. They also have a will and (sometimes) the power to exert that will upon the physical world.

A disembodied spirit at unrest may manifest itself using any (or any combination of) the senses.
